Chirpy: A Design-Led Gem in Leeds
We're spreading some love today for one of our fantastic stockists, Chirpy. Located in the vibrant Chapel Allerton area of Leeds, Chirpy is a design-led independent gift shop and workspace that's a true gem for the community.
Owned by the lovely Jo, Chirpy offers a treasure trove of unique finds, including lots of colourful and leopard print earrings, all housed in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
We recently caught up with Jo to learn more about her journey and what makes Chirpy so special.
From Corporate Life to Dream Shop Owner
Jo's story is an inspiring one. After 20 years in the corporate world, she took a leap of faith and purchased Chirpy, a shop she'd always admired, when it came up for sale. With just six weeks until Christmas and no prior retail experience, Jo dove headfirst into the world of independent business ownership.
"It's been a brilliant rollercoaster ride" Jo says.
A Community Hub with a Passion for Design
Chirpy is more than just a shop; it's a hub for the Chapel Allerton community.
Jo enjoys collaborating with suppliers to curate a selection of gifts that perfectly suit her customers' tastes, including a wide variety of colourful statement jewellery, art prints, homeware, greeting cards and more. The shop also features a workshop space upstairs, where Jo hosts creative events.
But perhaps Jo's favourite part of running Chirpy is connecting with her customers.
"Getting to know my customers is one of the things I love most," Jo says. "They often rely on me to help them find the perfect gift, and they know they can always count on Chirpy, especially when searching for that unique pair of earrings or the perfect print for their living room.
Quirky Bestsellers and Radio 6 Vibes
What are some of Chirpy's must-see items? Jo tells us that the rebel rebel leopard print lightning bolt earrings are a top seller and they appeal to a wide range of ages. The colourful geometric ombre studs have also been a big hit, with one enthusiastic customer owning a pair in every colour and shape ❤️
When you visit Chirpy, you'll be greeted by the sounds of Radio 6 playing in the background. Jo loves the station's eclectic mix of music and chat, especially Lauren Laverne's breakfast show.
